What to do in Orlando besides the parks

It is clear that the main reason thousands of people visit Orlando every day is to visit the Disney parks and Universal Studios. But this city located in the state of Florida has other attractions beyond the parks. In this post, I share what to do in Orlando in addition to the parks for one day you want to rest from so many parks or simply want to know something more about the city.

1. Go shopping at the Orlando outlets

If shopping is your thing, take the opportunity to visit one of the Orlando outlets. You will find stores of the best-known brands at much more accessible prices than in a normal shopping mall. The best-known outlets are Orlando International Premium Outlets and Orlando Vineland Ave Premium Outlets. Another place you can go is  The Mall at Millenia, although it is a mall with regular stores so the prices are not so cheap.

2. Visit Legoland

Continuing with the theme of amusement parks, located in Winter Haven 1 hour from Orlando is Legoland, an ideal theme park for children between 3 and 12 years old. All the figures in the park are made with Lego pieces! There are games, roller coasters, swimming pools, and even a hotel ( Legoland Florida ) for those who want to spend the night. It seems to be an ideal plan for those who have smaller children because the park is made exclusively for them.

3. Visit Fun Spot America

If you want more adrenaline, visit Fun Spot America, a park located very close to the popular Disney parks where you will find roller coasters, games, and go-kart tracks.

Admission to Fun Spot America is included with your GO Orlando attractions pass.

4.Tour Downtown Orlando

Downtown Orlando is about a 20-minute drive from the parks, although very few tourists visit as they prefer to stay in the parking area. However, Downton Orlando is a good option for an afternoon or evening.

A popular street in downtown Orlando is Church Street, with lots of nightlife, restaurants, and the city’s historic railroad depot. Another recommended place in the center is Lake Eola Park, a beautiful green park with a lake in the middle of the city.

5. Stroll through Disney Springs

Disney fans can’t miss Disney Springs, an outdoor shopping promenade with themed shops, restaurants, and more. There is everything and it is a very fun place to walk after a day in the parks. See the official page of Disney Springs.

6. Eat something at Universal CityWalk

Like Disney, Universal also has its outdoor shopping mall where you will find a wide variety of themed shops and restaurants such as Bubba Gamp, Hard Rock Cafe, Voodoo Donut, and more. See the official page of Universal CityWalk.

7. Enjoy the views at ICON park

The Wheel at ICON Park Orlando is a 120-meter high Ferris wheel from where you can see all of Orlando. Besides that in the park you will find more games, the famous Madame Tussauds Orlando museum, an aquarium and more. Book your ticket for The Wheel at ICON park here.

8. Educational games at WonderWorks Orlando

WonderWorks is a science-focused entertainment center. There are super fun exhibits and activities that challenge your mind. It is a very entertaining but educational place. Reserve ticket for WonderWorks here.

9. Clearwater Beach

If you are looking for a white sand beach to enjoy the Florida climate, Clearwater Beach is a paradise 90 minutes from Orlando. It is not so close but if you have a day off and want to relax on the beach I think it is a very good option. You can also book an excursion to Clearwater Beach.

10. Explore space at the Kennedy Space Center

If you like space, NASA, rockets, you cannot miss a trip to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral.

It is located just 1 hour from Orlando and it is a visit that will fascinate you. The visitor center is very interactive and is perfect for all ages as there are many activities for kids. In fact, they took me when I was 7 years old and I loved it, I still remember some things! If you don’t want to drive, you can book this excursion to the Kennedy Space Center.
