There was once a young man named Spiro who was having problems with his mate. He went to see this old drunk (who had a reputation as a Searcher of Truth and cheap booze) named Peloso. He found him laying down on the sidewalks in front of the Carnegie Center recuperating from the previous night libations (drunken binge). Spiro spoke to him:" I used to be a happy person. Sexually very active and life was an adventure every day. During the course of my dalliances I met my perfect complementary mate. We moved in. Ordinary tasks we did together became journeys of discovery. Just being in each other's presence made my being come fully alive and all my perceptions were enhanced."

Another leaf falling, another year. The friendly nurse, the one who speaks German, told me that I have been here twelve years. I remember the small village in East Prussia where I was born in 1922. I did not do too well in school. I was always behind in class and the other boys teased me, calling me stupid. When I started becoming a man, at thirteen, they stopped teasing me, because at 6Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ 3Ã¢â‚¬? I was bigger than the biggest of them, and a lot stronger. They put me to work in the fields at 14. By the time I was sixteen, I was doing three manÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s jobs. I was 6Ã¢â‚¬â„¢6Ã¢â‚¬?, 270 lbs, and could work hard for sixteen hours consecutive days during harvest. The farmer was very happy with me, and fed me well. When the war started, soldiers came to the farm and wanted to ship me to aÃ¢â‚¬? rehabilitation campÃ¢â‚¬?. The farmer told them that I was needed for working the farm and they said:Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ we can wait till after the warÃ¢â‚¬â„¢. I wanted to go but am glad now, I didnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t go since my friendly nurse told me years later, that there were no such camps, and that they were killing people like me, who were not very smart.

At a party at the trailer, on Dogwood Avenue,
one night of celebrations (without even incantations)
"Butter me up" Al, and "Drag me down" Fred,
try to convince "Big" John he's not a pacifist anymore!

"Little" Ken Hamilton lends a willing walking boot,
provokes intense reaction, then tries to shy away.
Fred 'high in his cups' shows John how to handle it,
throws beer into his face, the fight is on with Ken!

This ballad keeps on ticking, around and round it comes,
it's Texada party times, we boys are having fun.

The Wanderer. 02-2004

Last night
I watched a sunset,
and died a bit inside.

Stayed up mesmerized,
seeing stars and moon
lighting up dark sky.

Till morning come,
the sunrise
gifting again moving life
to limbs laying on sand,
as waves sprayed near by.

Now I get ready to depart,
feeling emptiness of heart
at having to leave
such beauty behind.

Note: this a satyre read it with tongue in cheek.

Survival of the Specious(Species). by Gian August 25, 2006.

It never seems to amaze me that often what starts out as a facetious pun turns out to have some deeper meaning, and shows us a different facet of Truth.
The dictionary's meaning for specious is:

#1: apparently good or right though lacking real merit; superficially pleasing or plausible.

#2: pleasing to the eye but deceptive.

The question that arises in my mind is: this quality of "speciousness" does it help the survival of the species? There is no doubt that it helps the individual within that species when that lifeform can be "....pleasing to the eye but deceptive..." or "...apparently good or right though lacking real merit..." but up to now I always felt that it weakened the species as a whole since the Universe does not care (in the long run) about what 'appears to be' but rewards only what is.

A Philosophy of Healthy Nutrition.

To function our bodies need energy. If that was all that was required, it would be a simple matter of putting the right amount of sugars in water, to balance our diet. Unfortunately we also need a variety of minerals, vitamins, trace elements, and other phytochemicals to rebuild cells, stave off diseases/and/or/radicals that can cause cancers, keep various parasites/germs/viruses at bay, ensure a healthy long life, etc. So the way to look at a good diet is: how many good nutrients can we pack in the small amount of calories needed daily for energy by the size of our bodies, age and activities to ensure as good a healthy diet as can be achieved? If our diet is unbalanced, our body shall keep asking for more food than the necessary amount of calories needed, and the excess calories shall then be converted by the liver into fat and stored away for a rainy day. Variety is important!
