Thanks for everything!

To my Homeless Nation crew,

Today is the last day of my contract as an Outreach Worker in Montreal. I just wanted to let everyone know that I have learned a tremendous amount from all of you. I am honored that you shared your stories with me, and each one taught me valuable lessons, and allowed me a glimpse of your unique insights and experiences. I will still check the site regularly, and contribute whenever possible. I know Anya will keep things going strong on the Montreal end of things after I am gone.

Thanks again for everything, and keep don't ever give up the fight!

80 EXTRA BEDS IN TORONTO

The city is gearing up for another freezing night by declaring an extreme cold weather alert, with temperatures expected to plummet below -25 degrees Celsius.

David Rodgers, a senior meteorologist with Environment Canada, said this evening that the mercury will dip down to -20 degrees by late tonight and could hit -29 degrees with the wind chill.

"It'll be a pretty chilly morning," Rodgers said.

To prepare for the icy blast, the city has opened an additional 80 beds at homeless shelters to get people off the streets.

Merci!

Hey everyone,

Go check out the Quebec section of our resources list! I created a list of Montreal hotlines, a list of available long and short-term housing, and added several more shelters for men and women.
Hope it helps!

Innovative coat to help the homeless battle winter

From the Toronto Star- http://www.thestar.com/living/article/285392

Stuffed with newspaper, Lida Baday design will be distributed to 3,000

Dec 14, 2007 04:30 AM
Bernadette Morra
Fashion Editor

The elegant modernism of Lida Baday is not the sort of thing you normally see worn in a meat locker.

But this is no ordinary Lida Baday coat.

The revered Canadian designer has crafted an all-season garment for the homeless than can be stuffed with newspapers for insulation.

Don't You Quit- an Inspirational Poem

"When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
