National Day of Silence - play, eat, make love, alter your consciousness, DO WHAT YOU LIKE!!!
2007.03.21 - 1:04 PM
Metis Rebel's latest rant regarding a National Do Nothing day for the working poor and homeless volunteers etc.
I think we could get it together sooner than May 1, 2008, but maybe i'm just too optimistic.
THINK OF IT!!! We'd shut down the country!!!! The majority of jobs these days are in the service sector, and pay minimum wage or sometimes less.
Should we try to pull it off one day this June or July at the height of tourist season, or will too many of these bloated CEO's that we can expect to piss off be on vacation at that time?

Absolutely, let's go for it!
Actually if we are going to do this we should take the time to organize it correctly to have a maximum effect I like Metis Rebels original in 2008. It would give us the time to make this a national iniitiative.

It's right to Rebel!!
Nous Avons Raison de ce Révolter!!
I do believe, ladies and gentlemen that we HAVE A MOVEMENT [of some kind what the hell did I start here?]
Surprised the heck outta me *laff*
If no one minds a bit of organizing here [feel free to toss it around, add, subtract, suggest] I will throw out the following ideas:
PRE-UNDERSTANDING
What democratic system or whatever do we want to use to get this army into gear? *chuckle* D'ya think consensus can work or will this be too big? Should we use forms of cells with "captains" garnering concensus or a voting system? Shall we start with caucuses and change if we have to? What are you comfortable with?
What do we CALL this thing? The National Committee on the Judiciuos Use of Silence? The National Army for Social Justice? [just kidding]
FIRST:
We need 3-6 points on which we all agree that we can get signed commitments for. This includes timelines that we expect the government to commit to. We need more people who can get them and help. Any recruitment ideas? We also need to consult a lawyer for a reasonable draught.
SECOND:
We need to choose a date next year [early enough for the Olympics would have been perfect but this is a BIG committment and will take time. Perhaps our Vancouver buddies can organize a "pre-emptive strike" for now? We can help!]
I go with Hazel's suggestion--hit 'em at tourist time although I like the idea of National Worker's Day too--any ideas on a date?
THIRD:
We need to get a LOT of people on board that can get signed committments from [hopefully hundreds of thousands] of citizens across the country for that day and we need some help in getting triplicate photocopies and the forms so we can mail them [free to do!] to all three levels of government. We need to actually word the committment.
FOUR:
We need a spokesperson that can stay on topic to meet the media agenda. Someone who won't be easily swayed, is media savvy and is willing to commit and 'turns a good phrase' [not me, too wordy--I'm a captain not a general]
There are many other quieter jobs around that will need doing. It's a BIG committment.
FIVE:
We need an "action plan" that is reasonable, not burn-out central.
[Soon we may have to put these meetings into an email tree because this will not work very well over the long haul because we can only read what we are responding to, as opposed to an entire dialogue]
