The right-wing conservative mindset is heavily influenced by archaic notions of guilt, sin, etc., probably view most "bums" as "sinners" therefore deserving of hardship so as to see the "light" and "change" via "approved" ways. Whereas cute li'l kittens are born innocent and deserve lifetime care even when scratching or pissing on the carpet. That being said, those of you vigorously hating Harper remember he inherited the Afghanistan debacle from the last bunch and at least seems less of a contemptable liar. Of course, he should put a stop to things like the sheer stupidity of Canada spending tens of millions of dollars in marijuana eradication in Afghanistan (that's right, if you didn't know it already, incredibly our country is ALSO blithefully wasting MORE resources pulling out Afghan crops acting as if all domestic problems here have already been solved!!) When the black hole pit of incompetant war finally sucks the treasury dry, who will eventually have to pay for it?? Welfare recipients, pensioners, disabled, the ill waiting for hospital beds, anything or everything else except, of course, those holy grail tax cuts benefiting the rich.
