Join us for a presentation and discussion about how existing and proposed Burnaby infrastructure is supporting current and future tar-sands production.
While many people in British Columbia are becoming aware of the
tar-sands (or "Oil Sands") development in Alberta, few people are aware of how projects in BC support this environmentally devastating industrial project. The city of Burnaby is home to several of these projects, an alarming fact for a city that has had a disastrous pipeline rupture and a residents' campaign to prevent the expansion of the Chevron Refinery.
Come find out more about the Tar-sands, the BC infrastructure, policies and local companies are involved in the Tar-Sands development and what you can do to stop it. This is why there is a boom in Alta hiring and homelessness.
Right now the corporation are hiring like crazy every where in Alta. ; but they are not providing housing, nor is the municipalities. So this is leaving a huge shortage of housing and people.
The corps are paying through the nose in wages cause people just can't find housing. Welfare is adding its two cents worthy and putting the squeeze on its clients to take what ever jobs come their way. Even if the client can't do the job because of multiple limitations.
Last week while I was visiting the Hope Mission Centre in Edmonton, I witness one man going through the soup kitchen line promising people if they would come and work for him that he would pay more then welfare and give everyone better food if they would just come with him. One person spoke out and said would he get a place to sleep too? Cause he was ready to leave the line right then and there. He didn't get an answer. Another man said he didn't care a job is a job and he left with his new boss.
No questions were asked if papers or gear were needed.
Another person told me that he wrote his papers for a pipe fitters certification and failed the test and still manged to get a job full time simple because he took the test.
We need to put a stop to this kind of exploitation and destruction of our home and native land and take direction.
