I work in a drop-in center for the homeless and transiet population in Winnipeg. Some of these people are just so amazing, the public assume right away that they are all just drug addicted or alcholics but that is not always the case. Many people have lost their jobs and can't get help from E.I.A (welfare) and land up sleeping on the river bank or under a bridge and in this province that is dangerous, mostly in the winter. The goverment has to do more to help the needy and start to look at them as people and not just junkies who want to get high or drunk. It's a very sad situation and we need to help as many as we can.
Welcome to HN! It'd be great to hear some stories, get some news from Winnipeg...
Thanks Chris, I'm glad I came across this site. Working with the homeless has changed my life in a big way. I could not see myself not working with or helping out these people. Society has to open their eyes to what is going on out there and stop judging people.:) Rock On!!
