Work has begun on a new transitional residence in Toronto.

The Tyee.ca is reporting that British Columbia’s Employment and Income Assistance Minister, Claude Richmond, has ripped into a proposal that would aim to raise the province’s welfare rate by 50%.

The city of Toronto will spend an additional $2-million this summer, as well as an extra $5-million next year, to combat panhandling in the downtown area.
