Everyone from Victoria
Born in Northern Ireland. Went to C.A.I.on the banks of the Bann River in Coleraine County Londonderry. I'm glad of the peace there now - as before I left - it definitely - was lacking. Graduated from UVIC in 1990. BFA in Creative Writing but realized quickly that kissing ass (arse) was a pre-condition to success. Have been self-publishing for 15 years. Victoria Fringe 1987. Crowned And The Anointed (fiction) published by Émigré in a limited edition of one hundred copies. Somewhere in the range of twenty chapbooks self-published. Sell broadsheets and small folded poems on the street that number in the high hundreds. Chapbook 'Hole In The Head Buddha Could Crawl Through’ published in 1991. My main choice of expression is through poetry and fiction, although I may sometimes go along the tangent of Creative journalism (not unlike poetic license). I have, at times, done public readings of my work at The James Bay Inn at Mocambo at the University of Victoria at Dark Horse Books at Second Story books. Reviewed in Times Colonist Sept 1987.Monday Magazine did three page spread on me 6/7 years ago (PARTLY … accurate account of me) I've lived on the street of Victoria for the past 10 years. Spend a lot of the time in the library reading writing and dreaming. Mainly read American and European literature. Favorite newspaper the Manchester Guardian. Love football (soccer) and watch on T.V. Read biographies. Favorite literary magazine when I can get hold of it - Granta. At the moment I sleep where I can by friendly trees to the soft sound of raccoons heavy on low branches. I eat where I can. My philosophical outlook is that of an agnostic though by the day and the night I am becoming a true atheist. I love animals. But I eat meat. I try not to get caught up in too many causes cause too many causes can snap the strength of the mind.
Dumbing-down is my biggest fear and mindless regurgatation of old comedy even more so.
P.S Home is more than a door! Mental security is like a mental codeword that no-one has a key to.
Life is still a choice. I want to share what has helped me succeed in living in poverty and this "low income loop". As well I want people to know they have OPTIONS, ALTERNATIVES, and the CHOICE to Not be stuck trapped in the cycle of homelessness and abuse, degredation and a criminal way of life. Yes you CAN live an honest and clean life and RECOVER. See for yourself.

i have had a six and one half year long journey, first by choice into a gypsy transient life which became a true homeless experience. i grew up in Victoria, and returning after 27 years, and seeing and experiencing homelessness personally, has been mind boggling and extremely challenging. we are in the process of becoming a non-profit society, and creating a web site, and seeking assistance to edit film.
the website will be on food security, survival skills, alternatives to pharmacuticles, natural health.
we seek others to join with us to assist in a Gathering at which we will be able to have our own voice. The crisis of homelessness in Victoria is a state of emergency. The City of Victoria has failed to provide safe shelter spaces for us to camp. There were four funerals last week at Our Place.
It is simply time for RESOULUTION> ie the immediate accommodation
for the homeless, in parks, on land, where camping will be permitted 24 hours a day. The provincial parks would be a good start. Tents, tarps, raingear, footwear, sleeping bags are scarce in Victoria. Drop off above at Camus Bookstore and Community Space - corner Kings and Quadra - or Our Place, 919 Pandora.
Blessings

I think that the situation on Pandora Avenue
needs serious attention. No more time wasting
and lots of rehab for these homeless drug users.
Take back the neighbourhood.

I am still hoping my sister finds me or that she knows someone that comes here and will tell her that I am looking for her. She liked Edmonton but maybe she went back to her birth town, Toronto?
I love to write...I hope that one day I will get enough money to go to university to learn to master my english. Other than that. I love to live.
I'm a filmmaker, social activist, musician/composer, author, and all round artist in every sense of the word.
I use my talent and credibility in the entertainment world to bring light to social disorganization, in hopes that together we can take hold of the situations that have left so many people to die under the care of a government who won't even lift it's poorest above the poverty line.
We can make a difference, one person at a time, by expanding awareness throughout the communities, shining a new light of acceptance of the impoverished and their dire need for progressive social change.
