Money flows the wrong way

An article from Friday, March 7th quoted "Jane Weldon, director general of the federal Homelessness Partnering Secretariat." In the article, "She said homelessness falls under territorial and provincial jurisdiction, and that although the federal government is attempting to assist, the problem is growing." Typical playing politics. So the Tories are "attempting to assist" by offering "...nothing to alleviate the housing insecurity already worrying more than 1.5 million Canadian households." "thetyee.ca" Interesting strategy, guys. Also, how are the provincial/territorial governments supposed to tackle the problem if the Feds are in charge of the transfer payments? They are the ones with their hands on the purse strings. The Tories can't dodge responsibility for this, as much as they may try to pass the buck to other levels of government.
In typical politically correct fashion, Jane Weldon has the line of the year here: "It's a bit offensive in a country as wealthy as ours to see people with nowhere to sleep." "NNS Online" A bit offensive? How about a disgusting travesty! I guess that wouldn't look as good in print. I guess she doesn't want to bite the hand that feeds.
It always surprises me how the Federal Government is able to lie with such impunity. For example, everyone's buddy Housing Minister Monte Solberg recently said (in an official press release) "Our government is delivering on its commitment to help those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless." "Press Release" Does he actually believe this? Very interesting strategy, seeing as, as I reported last week, the DND was the only department to have their budget increased, I do not see how they can be telling the truth.
There is one new thing I did discover: According to the Wellesley Institute, “Canadian corporations earned record high operating profits of $262.5 billion in 2007,” (as reported by)... Canada’s national statistical agency on February 21." Also, "...profitable corporations will continue to benefit from billions in corporate tax cuts announced in the past two years." "Wellesley" So, the economy is allegedly at record profitability, but instead of taxing these uber-rich corporations and putting the money into badly-needed housing programs, the government is rewarding them with billions in tax credits. Wow, something is out of whack here. Sounds "a bit offensive" to me.
