thanks for making a comment and putting together the list so it is easy to see how much each family spends. i was surprised that more people did not respond to this post as i found it quite shocking to see how little other people in the world have. global poverty is a huge issue.
What an amazing pictorial! It illustrates pointedly how mere human subsistence is exploited- where there is a profit to be made. Note the lack of processed and packaged foods in the places where there's just no money to be skimmed off by profit-seeking processed food vendors.
Another dramatic display of Western decadence & imperialism is the obvious moral to this story.
I feel sadness and anger, but no guilt.
The biggest crime the 1st world ever committed against the 3rd world wasn't the now-familiar genocides (which I am not excusing).
No, it was something far more subtle and supremely ironic -- after all that genocide is totalled up, the 1st world STILL saved far more lives than it took in the 3rd world, and that is the crime of all time -- providing death control without simultaneously providing birth control!
Consider that the world population exploded as a result -- that's right, as a result of 1st world medical and agricultural technology, the number of miserable people is orders of magnitude larger than it had been for 99+% of human existence. And billions more are in the pipeline if we keep ignoring serious
birth control.
And this merely considers humans, as usual. Non-humans fare far worse, but they don't have any seat at this table. As usual.
BTW, I'm tired of hearing how so-and-so lives on $1.37 a day. That doesn't account for bartering, subsistence farming, poaching, crime, charity & other activities that aren't accounted for in a GNP.
Ever seen "Cribs" on MTV? If you have, you've seen how poor "people of color" behave once they're rich & famous.
Yes, I'm saddened and angered by what I see, but no guilt for this simple-living tree-hugging childless gringo!
These pictures has been hitting web sights all over. Who was first to publish it?
I think we humans, as a planet, we as culture are in free fall.
I saw some bugs to day, real insects. They are beautiful. Who are we to destroy them and the planet we share with other life forms? We in the western cultures have set a standard that is bankrupting ourselves in every imaginable and unimaginable ways.
What gives us the right to do so?
We can't stop homelessness but we can help fight it.

I would like to know where did you get the information that a German family spends more than 300euros every month with food. That's not normal in Germany and it's something really scary and unusual.
German people are the most worried people with money, savings and wasting. I can say that for sure because I was an Au Pair for 4 families in Germany and Austria which made me learn how to save food and money.
Besides food in Germany is really cheap, one bottle milk costs only 0.50 cents, the same pasta which is in the picture costs 1.50euro so I am not judging your work which is pretty good but I am in doubt about the amount.
Best regards,
Paula
