Street Nurses STI blog

Have not really done a blog before and not sure how exciting a blog on STI's will be but here goes. One of the most common things I hear people say is that they don't get tested because they don't notice any symptoms. Actually it is more common to have no symptoms than it is to notice any symptoms at all when it comes to STI's. Most STI's are really easy to test for and also to treat.
We can test for Chlamydia and gonorrhea from pee, so that's good news for guys - no more swabs in the penis! Both gonorrhea and Chlamydia are treated with a single dose of antibiotics. Usually 5 pills taken at one time. Easy to test and easy to treat.
Syphilis has made a comeback in Vancouver and we test for that by taking blood. It also is treated with antibiotics by an injection. Not as easy as pills but still worth it. Syphilis left untreated over many years can cause damage to the brain and other organs.
Rumor has it that many famous people had syphilis including Al Capone, Hitler, Beethoven and Christopher Columbus.
Do you all know where to get free, confidential testing?
Do you want some information on clinics or ways to reach the street nurses for testing?
