POOR PEOPLE'S LEVEE TOUR 2007
The 9th Annual Poor People’s Levee Tour included over 50 people who attended 3 New Years Day Levees in the Victoria-Capital region. A tradition that dates back to the days of the fur trade, a levee is provided by government officials on New Years day when the public is invited into the main government building for food and beverages. The three places attended for the 2007 tour were Government House hosted by the Honourable Iona Campagnolo Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, Oak Bay City Council (Mayor was absent) and Langford City Council (Mayor was absent.) A bus was provided through generous donations. Questions and songs brought attention to the issues of poverty, homelessness, and the need for low income housing.
About 50 Homeless, Working Poor, and supporters toured Victoria, BC government houses open to the public on New Years Day.
