Housing for Homeless needed NOW!

2006.10.29 - 11:06 PM

The Ad-hoc Committee to End Homelessness held rallies all week to draw attention to homelessness issues. Monday October 23, 2006 more than 150 people gathered to send a strong message to leaders from BC Municipalities gathered in Victoria to attend the annual convention where they met with Premier Gordon Campbell. The protestors then moved to the Janion Building to support Craig Ballantyne who squatted the abandoned building and demanded that it, and many other abandoned buildings be turned into housing for the homeless, before he was tear-gassed and arrested. This rally cry has been taken up by many people in Victoria and the momentum is building. A follow up rally will be held outside Victoria City Hall on November 9, 2006 and presentations will follow inside the chambers before city council and the mayor.
