UPDATE - THE RIGHT TO SLEEP

2006.10.29 - 7:27 PM

"After fasting for 36 days in jail David has received a ruling on his appeal. A trial date of September 4, 2007 has been set to hear David's challenge to existing bylaws in Victoria that prevent people from sleeping in a public access place. The Supreme Court of British Columbia will hear this challenge during a 9 day trial which is a charter challenge, meaning that the court is being asked to rule on a question regarding the Constitution of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. A ruling in favour of the challenge will mean that municipalities across Canada will have to adhere to that ruling. The question is: Does an individual have a right to sleep or is sleeping a privilege for which everyone must pay cash?"

hey how's it going? I'm organizing an hour of the homelessness marathon called resistance and empowerment that is going to be broadcast nationwide and would like to hear from you during this hour. There is a toll free number where you could call in to speak via radio. We would like to hear a little more about your charter challenge.

If it interests you please contact me.

I think this is a step in a good direction however, if a court does rule that "sleeping is a right" , they still have the power to remove people from public places using existing excuses like: "Encumbering the sidewalk" and " Dwelling in a park without permit" and so on. At least in Ontario, that's how it'll work.

Just a thought,

Stay warm and dry, or die trying!

This is to everyone else and not directed at David personally. I have stated time and time again that to find the right answers we must first find the right questions. I beg you to take a moment to identify the TRUTH here. It is the only way to fight the lies and misdirections thrown at you.
First & foremost, stop talking about your right to sleep when you haven't recognized that by the FULL Capitalization of your names on your ID that you have NO RIGHTS.
http://ancientclown.blogspot.com/2006/10/word-wise.html
Stop talking about your right to sleep and start talking about the FACT that sleep deprivation is a recognized form of torture. Am I the only one who has seen the "NO SLEEPING" signs posted EVERYWHERE at these homesless shelters and pretend aid places such as the Salvation Army & United Way(where once you check in you become an inmate and are kept down, not a free being getting a hand up...oh sure, sometimes one or two manage to get through so they can be used to tell everyone else how great they are).
Having "Poverty & Homelessness" added to the Freedoms & Human Rights Acts, would help PREVENT the passing of racist bylaws that violate our freedoms, such as "No sleeping", "No sitting", "No camping", "no busking", etc. LAWS originally geared to control natives/undesirables in the downtown cores of all your cities.
P.S. Here's where you can take a moment and notice how EVERY one of the BYLAWS I just mentioned and we've all encountered are also well within our rights under the heading of "FREEDOM OF RELIGION", if that was a TRUTH...But by the actions of making such bylaws, what are they really saying...NO LIVING AS GOD INTENDED & INSTRUCTED.
Which makes them WHAT...by their actions?
By their actions have they created a Free Country or an ENSLAVED one?
By your actions...have you joined them or are you standing against them?
your humble servant,
Ancient Clown

A good friend of my grandfathers ran in to tough times and has been homeless for quite a while he actually has a trailer so is pretty lucky compared to his friends. Having been around homeless for so long every winter he brings me his kerosene heater along with his other homeless friends and i change out all the wicks in them since they charge to do that at the local hardware shop. I bought a bunch of beds for them as well recently mattresses at least.
