Ban conversions of low-income rental buildings!

We need your help to save Low-Income Housing in Vancouver !
What if you could help prevent more homelessness in Vancouver, just by
sending an e-mail? mayorandcouncil@vancouver.ca

A critical vote at Vancouver City Hall is coming up on Thursday,
October 19 at 2 p.m. on a motion to ban conversions of low-income rental
housing (“SRO Buildings) in the city into condominiums. The city already
has restrictions like this in place preventing conversion of office
buildings. While this motion may sound like the obvious response to the net
loss of over 500 units for poor people in Vancouver since June 2005, a
slim majority of city councillors are currently voting against it.
Send a message to the mayor and city council right now,
telling them that you support the October 19th motion to ban conversions of
low-income rental buildings to condominiums. Contact the mayor and council
at mayorandcouncil@vancouver.ca

We need your help to prevent homelessness. In 2005, Vancouver ’s street
homeless population was estimated, on the low side, at just over 1,200. By
2010, this number could nearly triple if low-income housing in Vancouver
continues to be converted to other uses. Please help us get the message
out!

Thanks for your help.
