Save The Heatley Block
The Heatley Block (circa 1931) and attached two historic houses (circa 1889 and 1898) have been purchased by the City as the site of the new community library (the neighboring Pivot Legal building is also being sold to the City for this purpose). The historic Heatley Block buildings will be demolished for the library which will cover the ground level of a proposed 8 storey building.
Help save these much loved historic buildings from demolition by joining a proposal to the City to locate the new library in the Lord Strathcona Elementary School building (circa 1921) which has been offered to the City and the VPL for this purpose. This would also save the school building from future demolition. Please join in convincing the City that demolishing landmark and historic buildings for city projects is not appropriate for our neighborhood!
