Rude Awakening
2008.07.20 - 2:18 PM
Morning wake-up call courtesy of Vancouver's Project Civil City guided police department. In a city with 0% vacancy for people on income assistance and more than 40,000 turnaways from shelters in the Metro region during a recent nine-month period, where is a homeless person supposed to sleep?
Pivot Legal Society, the United Native Nations and the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users have filed a human rights complaint against the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association and Geoff Plant in his role as Civil City Commissioner.

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and think, "Wow, what a beautiful world." And then on other days, perhaps when my head is more securely fastened to my shoulders, I think, "This is it? This is the best that we can do? Millions of years of evolution have led us to this point in time and this is how we treat our fellow man? Our planet? Ourselves?
I hear you, man.
A group of us from across Canada should agree to meet and organize to find a way to create more fulfilling lives, inside this nightmarish reality.
At the essence of it all, enough of us have reached a consciousness that should enable us to find a way to construct what is missing...
If others cannot see or understand the benefit, then so be it – we'll keep it for ourselves.
Enough is enough. And enough has been enough for way, way too long.
